About BARC OCES/DGFS-2025

The BARC Training Schools offer two prestigious training programs (OCES-2025 & DGFS-2025) designed for talented individuals eager to build a successful career in Nuclear Science, Engineering, and Technology.

These programs are ideal for candidates who are excited by challenges in advanced areas of science and technology, those eager to contribute to the growing fields of Nuclear Power, Research Reactors, Accelerators, and Nuclear Fuel Cycle Technologies, and individuals passionate about conducting innovative research in disciplines such as Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biosciences, and Geology. The two primary programs offered are:

  1. Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates (OCES)
  2. DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates (DGFS)
    Upon successfully completing these training programs, participants are guaranteed placement as Scientific Officer “C” in one of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) units or the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board, with opportunities for significant career growth and advancement.

Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates (OCES)

The one-year Orientation Course for Engineering Graduates and Science Postgraduates for the academic year 2025-2026 (OCES/DGFS-2025) will be held at the two BARC Training Schools located in Mumbai and Hyderabad.

DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates (DGFS)

The two-year DAE Graduate Fellowship Scheme for Engineering Graduates (DGFS-2025) will commence in the academic session of 2025.

This program is designed for Engineering Graduates who perform exceptionally well in the selection interviews for the BARC Training Schools’ programs and independently secure admission to M. Tech. programs in select institutes and specializations, as outlined for the same academic year. Under the DGFS scheme, selected candidates receive a stipend, and their tuition fees are covered while they pursue their M. Tech. degree, all while maintaining their employment with the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE).

Stipend and Allowances during Training

OCES trainees receive a monthly stipend of ₹74,000 throughout their training period, along with a one-time book allowance of ₹30,000. DGFS Fellows are provided a monthly stipend of ₹74,000 for two years, with their M. Tech.

tuition fees fully reimbursed. Additionally, they are granted a one-time contingency grant of ₹60,000 per year for two years to cover M. Tech. project-related expenses. Fellows can also receive up to ₹4,00,000 under the BRNS Fast Track Project scheme to purchase necessary equipment or consumables for their M. Tech. project, reimbursed based on actual expenses incurred.

Appointment in all the units shall be as a Scientific Officer “C‟ (SO/C) in the Level 10 – ₹ 56,100
of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix

Selection Process

  • On the basis of Online Examination:
    • Online Examination will be conducted in March 2025 in each of the eight Engineering disciplines OCES discipline
    • Candidates who register for the Online Examination will be assigned to one of their preferred examination centers. A link will be sent to all validly registered candidates, allowing them to confirm their participation in the online exam. Once confirmed, the allocation of centers will be made on a first-come, first-served basis. Confirming participation in the BARC online exam (CBT) is essential for the issuance of the admit card.
  • On the basis of GATE score:
    • Candidates who fulfill all the eligibility requirements outlined in Section-4 will be shortlisted for the Selection Interview based on their GATE-2023, GATE-2024, or GATE-2025 scores in the relevant GATE subject.
  • On the basis of CGPA score of CEBS/ NISER:
    • Students who have graduated or will graduate with a Master’s degree in Physics, Chemistry, or Biosciences from the University of Mumbai – Department of Atomic Energy Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS) or the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, during the academic years 2023-2024 or 2024-2025, and have a Cumulative Grade Performance Average (CGPA) of 7.5 or higher on a scale of 10, will be directly shortlisted for the Selection Interview stage. This is contingent upon their meeting all other eligibility criteria for the OCES/DGFS-2025 program.

Eligibility

Candidates whose qualifying degree includes the core degree name along with any specialization are also eligible for the OCES/DGFS-2025 program. Additionally, please refer to the list of degrees that are NOT eligible for the OCES/DGFS program, as outlined below.

1. For Engineering OCES Disciplinesi. B.E. / B.Tech / B.Sc. (Engineering) / 5-year Integrated M. Tech. with a minimum of 60%
ii. Applicants, who meets above mentioned educational criteria, opting to be considered
on the basis of a GATE Score must have GATE-2023 / GATE-2024 /GATE-2025 score
in the same GATE paper/subject
2. For Physics Disciplinei. M.Sc. or Integrated M. Sc. in Physics (Physical Science) / Applied Physics with
Physics and Mathematics at B.Sc. / B. Tech./ B.Sc. (Engg.) or at subsidiary and/or
ancillary level in case of 5-year integrated M.Sc. or B.E./ B.Tech. / B. Sc. (Engg.) /
Integrated M. Tech in “Engineering Physics” with a minimum of 60%
ii. M. Sc. or Integrated M. Sc. candidates (other than those applying with a 5-year
integrated M. Sc. degree) must additionally have a minimum of 60%
3. For Chemistry Disciplinei. M.Sc. or Integrated M. Sc. in Chemistry with Physics up to B.Sc. or up to subsidiary
and / or ancillary level in case of 5-year integrated M.Sc. and Mathematics
ii. All candidates (other than those applying with a 5-year integrated M.Sc. degree)
must additionally have a minimum of 60%* aggregate marks (or minimum of 6.0 CGPA
on a scale of 10 or equivalent) in B.Sc.
4. For Biosciences Discipline1.Candidates with an M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. in fields such as Biosciences, Biology, Life Sciences, Agriculture, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Botany, Zoology, Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Plant Pathology, Entomology, Food Technology, Food Science, Animal Science, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Food Science & Technology, Plant Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Nutrition Biology, Biophysics & Molecular Biology, or a BSMS in Biosciences are eligible, provided they have secured at least 60% aggregate marks (or a minimum of 6.0 CGPA on a scale of 10 or equivalent) in both their M.Sc. and B.Sc. (except for 5-year integrated M.Sc.). Additionally, candidates with a B.E. or B.Tech. in Food Technology with a minimum of 60% aggregate marks (or at least 6.0 CGPA on a scale of 10 or equivalent) are also eligible.
